Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2025

The Guild of Carillonneurs in North America (GCNA) respects your privacy. We want you to know how we process (meaning collect, store, use, transmit, disclose, erase, and protect) information about you—your personal data. We also want you to know your rights and choices.

This policy describes how we process your personal data when you use our website (www.gcna.org), when you interact with official "@gcna.org" email addresses, or anywhere else we gather information from you and refer you to this policy—our services.

Personal data we collect about you

The personal data we collect about you depends on how you use our services. Examples include your name, email address, shipping and billing address, phone number, mailing preferences, payment account or payment card details, and information collected through your use of our website.

You willingly give us much of the personal data that we collect. If you refuse to give us the personal data we ask for, we may be unable to provide certain products or services to you. We collect some personal data automatically; see "Cookies, web beacons, and analytics," below.

We do not collect any special categories of personal data as defined by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and similar laws. This means data that reveals your racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, or trade union membership; your genetic data; your biometric data for the purpose of uniquely identifying you; and data concerning your health, sex life, or sexual orientation.

How we process your personal data

We may use your personal data to do the following:

  • Store your contact information in a database accessible to and for the benefit of our members, if you are a member
  • Communicate with you and notify you of changes to our products or services
  • Carry out our contractual obligations to you and provide you with the information, products, and services that you request or purchase from us
  • Collect payments for any products or services you purchase from us
  • Send newsletters to you and maintain social media accounts, and track your interaction with those services to provide future content that is more relevant and interesting to you
  • Administer our website so we can make improvements to it, keep it secure, and provide future content that is more relevant and interesting to you
  • Preserve the history of the art of the carillon and our role in it
  • Use it for other internal purposes, such as for data analysis and surveys

We process your personal data in the United States as described in this policy. Current laws of the United States may not provide the same level of protection as those of your country if you reside elsewhere.

We may retain your personal data for archival or legal purposes, such as complying with other regulations and responding to actual or threatened legal claims. We may anonymize your personal data (so that it can no longer be associated with you) for research or statistical purposes, in which case we may use this information indefinitely without further notice to you.

Cookies, web beacons, and analytics

Like many websites, we use a variety of online technologies to automatically collect data that helps us understand how our website is used and how our social media accounts are interacted with. These include cookies, web beacons, and analytics tools:

  • Cookies. A cookie is a small text file placed in your browser that collects information about you, such as your IP address, browser, and device. They allow our website to tailor its configuration to match your needs and preferences, for example, to keep you logged in between visits. If this technology concerns you, you can update your browser preferences to block new cookies or ask for permission to accept cookies when they are sent to you. You can also delete cookies previously sent to you. If you choose to block or delete cookies, certain features of our website may not operate correctly.
  • Web beacons. A web beacon, or pixel, is a file that usually consists of a single-pixel image, embedded in a web page or an email. It measures usage and activity by triggering the placement of a cookie on your device. Our website, emails, and social media accounts use web beacons. Web beacons allow us to collect information used for analytics, such as how many users have visited particular website pages or downloaded documents, or whether and when you receive and open our emails.
  • Analytics tools. Using your web browsing behavior collected from the tools above, we use Google Analytics to study the effectiveness of our website and for other purposes we described in the sections above. We also use it, along with Facebook Ads, to advertise to you about our products and services. This data is aggregated for statistical purposes such that we can no longer identify you.

How we keep your personal data secure

We maintain security procedures and standards that we believe are safe and secure, and we work with third-party providers that we believe help us maintain that safety and security. Learn more about the security of our providers:

  • Ecwid by Lightspeed, which powers our online store: https://www.lightspeedhq.com/security/
  • Google Analytics by Google, which powers our web analytics: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/6004245
  • Google reCAPTCHA by Google, which enhances the security of your account: https://www.google.com/recaptcha/about/

We do not share, sell, or trade your personal data without your consent. We only disclose your personal data to third parties when it is necessary to process payments or to carry out our contractual obligations to you, when it is required by law, or when it is in our legitimate interest. Our contracts with third parties prohibit them from using any of your personal data for any purpose other than that for which it was shared.

In the event there is a breach of our security and your personal data is compromised, we will promptly notify you using the current contact information we have on file in compliance with the applicable law.

Your choices on how we process your personal data

You have several choices on how we process your personal data. You can update, hide, and delete personal data stored on your member account. You can manage what kinds of notifications you receive from us and how often you receive them. You can set your browser to block tracking tools or alert you when they are being used, as explained in the sections above. You can also contact us to learn more about the status of your personal data.

Depending on your country of residence, you may have additional rights over your personal data, including but not limited to the right to access, right to rectification, right to transfer, right to object to processing, and right to erasure. If you wish to exercise these rights, please contact us using the information at the end of this policy.

To protect the personal data we hold, we may ask for personal data to verify your identity when you make these requests.

We do not knowingly collect the personal data of children

We do not knowingly collect the personal data of children under the age of 16. Our services are not intended for children. If you are a child, please do not use our website. Instead, ask an adult, such as your parent or guardian, to do these things for you. If we become aware or are notified that we have collected any such personal data, we will make reasonable efforts to erase it from our records as quickly as possible. Please contact us immediately if you believe we have collected the personal data of a child.

Our website links to other websites

Our website contains links to other websites that are not operated or controlled by us. If you decide to use these links, you will leave our jurisdiction and this policy will no longer apply. We are not responsible for the processing practices or content of other websites, and we strongly suggest you review the relevant policies governing those websites.

We will keep you informed

To ensure it accurately reflects our processing practices and the law, we may change this policy from time to time. You can tell when it was last updated by looking at the effective date at the top.

If we make changes that we determine to be material, we will allow you to review the changes before you continue to use our services. If you continue to use our services after the effective date, we will assume you have reviewed the changes. We may not have a means of notifying everyone of our changes, so please review this policy periodically.
