Member bio
Joseph tries to play at his home tower when he can and visiting towers when traveling. He enjoys to focus on the element of expression, theme, and dissonant chords where they bring thought-provoking and surreal experiences to the listener.
He has been a bell fanatic his whole life - notably starting with playing the digital carillon speaker system at his home church!
When he moved to Boston to study a Bachelor in Fine Arts in 2016, he discovered change ringing. As he joined and became a Resident Member of North American Guild of Change Ringers of Boston, one of the fellow ringers was a carillonneur who introduced Joseph to the carillon in Norwood and their lead carillonnuer, Lee Leach.
Joseph pushed his first baton in 2017 and learned the instrument quickly with his experience as a professional pianist and organist. Joseph enjoys improvising, and creating expressive variations on tunes.
In other times, Mr. Gurkan operates his business, providing entertainment design and technical services, and offer audio/video and network solutions.
