Grosse Pointe Memorial Church (PCUSA) is seeking applicants for a Resident Carillonist for the 2024-25 season. This is a part-time position that primarily requires playing the church’s 48-bell carillon before and after morning services twice per month. Resident Carillonist
Purpose: To provide carillon music at GPMC
Supervision: The Resident Carillonist is under the direct supervision of the Minister of Music
Status: Part-time (10 hours per month)
Evaluation: Performance evaluations will be performed by the Minister of Music
Education, Experience and Skills Required:
Undergraduate degree with music emphasis preferred
Carillon playing experience and ability
Ability to communicate and work with diverse personalities and ages
Understanding and support of the mission of GPMC
Responsibilities:
Playing the GPMC carillon before and after Sunday morning service twice
per month
Overseeing and promoting the volunteer carillonneur program
Private lessons with new carillon students (with additional remuneration)
Coordinating the summer recital series
Wedding and memorial services when requested (with additional
remuneration)
The typical schedule for this position is
o Two Sundays per month 8:30 am – 12:15 pm
o Practice and preparation at the discretion of the employee
Physical Demands:
Excellent vision and hearing
Ability to climb stairs (to carillon tower)
