The diagram below presents a summary of the 179 North American traditional carillons according to the pitch of the bourdon (principal bass bell, ignoring any sub-bourdon) when that is known. (One is unknown at present.) The middle two lines represent the keys of a keyboard according to their names and approximate positions. Above the "black notes" and below the "white notes" are the numbers of traditional carillons which have a bass bell of the corresponding pitch.

The first note on the left is an octave below middle C; a bell of this pitch weighs about 20 tons.
