*Remarks:

   Added semitones are sharp 4th,
flat 7th, flat 9th. This may have
been the chime shown by van Duzen at
the Lewis & Clark Exposition in
   Portland, OR (q.v.) in 1905.
Originally had a second set of clappers
   with lignum vitae inserts, intended
to produce a different sound, and
operated by changing pivot point of
   chimestand levers. This action was
removed during repairs in late 1970s.

In a page about the cemetery, the ivy-covered belfry is at the upper right corner of the photo.

A Website about the famous people buried at the cemetery has a detailed map but says nothing about the bells. Another list of famous burials has a less detailed map of the cemetery. On both maps, the location of the chime can readily be found--it is atop the small rectangular building on the west side of the entrance road, opposite the office building.

A news article about the change of ownership and subsequent renaming of the cemetery.
